Sound body, sound mind -- it sounds simple, right?
Something small - a roll here, a tweak there - can have huge, lasting benefits. -- Less stress, better body-mind connection…
And yes, relaxation.
Self-care isn’t just for hippies and therapy sessions -- it’s actually self-acceptance in action!
Here are 4 common tricks you can relax into today, and everyday, to take care of your most important asset...you!
- Roll Your Shoulders:
Typically, the stress of thinking and making decisions all day long takes its toll in the closest place to your head. See for yourself - are your shoulders tense right now? Whether I’m driving or obsessively re-writing an email, I find my shoulders at attention dozens, maybe hundreds of times a day. My solution: every few hours, doing five full rolls backwards, and five rolls forwards -- adding a couple of alternating each shoulder if the day’s been particularly brutal. The cons? You’ll look a bit like you’re having a mini-pilates class in front of your co-workers. The pros? You’ll be a little more relaxed and grounded than they are. And a little goes a longggg way.
- Give Your Feet a Golf Ball:
The average human spends thousands of hours a month on their feet. And shoes aren’t much help -- did you know that your toes are supposed to operate the same way as your fingers? But the strains of shoes and walking the walk keep your feet all f-ed up. Golf balls! At the end of your day -- or in the middle of it if your ambitious about taking off your shoes -- take one minute for each foot, rolling a dimply, rock-hard orb underneath it -- you’ll release tension, you’ll relax your feet and your mind will follow. You won’t be the Great Tiger Woods -- but you’ll be doing something great for yourself.
- Squeeze a Stress Ball:
Made exactly for those moments when you are clenching your fists already. Seriously, buy yourself a stress call and start squeezing. You won’t regret it.
- Water Your Wrists:
Bet you’ve never heard of this one before! Our body heat lives on the inside of our wrists -- and the temperature dials up when we’re freaked out. Drop some cool water on the inside of your wrists -- and feel your whole body (and mind!) begin to cool off.
Try these techniques out, figure out which strategies make your day better. Relaxation is never as far away as our mind tells us. Give yourself five minutes, and enjoy!
