Here’s a secret: no matter where in the world you find yourself, you can have peace of mind. You can be happy. You can relax.

Our environment absolutely matters. If your space is chaotic or cluttered - or calming and cool -  your minds and spirit are likely to follow suit.

Here are four tricks you can try to make the most of where you’re at, and find the relaxation you deserve for a moment (or more), today:

  1. Be Alone: tending to your outside environment doesn’t matter much if you don’t take care of your inner world. Taking alone time, be it for a few minutes or a few hours, is crucial to creating the space you need for yourself. A short walk around the block, a movie date for yourself, taking five minutes to relax under a tree: actions alone help us get connected, collect our thoughts and clear our heads. 
     
  2. Create a Zen Zone: At home, at your office or in your car - even in a box to travel with when you’re on the go - carrying with us things that create peace is paramount to our well-being. Anything from incense and candles, to pictures of loved ones or little reminders of who and what we are, they all help us connect with our hearts. A reminder that relaxing into life is really about the small, simple things. 
     
  3. Look Out the Window: The world is always in session. Whether we’re looking out an airplane window or your apartment’s second story. Seeing the world flying by for a few minutes can help us detach from the constancy of the day’s locomotion. Notice something small: a tree branch blowing in the wind or a small dog trotting along a sidewalk. You can relax into remembering, for a few moments, that you’re just another part of life’s puzzle. 
     
  4. Get Organized: It’s simple - the days I make my bed are easier and more relaxed than the ones when I leave my sheets crumpled. Apply that axiom all the way up: be it dishes or laundry, taxes or other nagging to-do’s. What simple action or three can you take today to clear up your physical space - and as a result, calm your mind? Small changes can have profound effects. 

Utilize your environment today, take a fresh look at the world, move a few things - and yourself around - and with a little effort, reap the benefits of calm and ease.
